Asbestos was a material that was widely used prior to 1978, including drywall texture, insulation, popcorn ceilings, VTC tiles, Joint compounds and floor vinyl. These materials can be found in over 3000 building products.
 
Due to health concerns the US Government decided to scale production back. Today it is no longer supposed to be used but can still be found in many products including materials purchased at home improvement stores.

If your home or building was built prior to this time, there is a good possibility there is asbestos within… including wall texures, popcorn ceilings, floor vinyl, VCT tiles and mastic, and roofing tar.

Asbestos doesn’t become a danger to those who live/work in the building until it becomes airborne and you can become exposed to the material. If you are planning on doing construction or removing the building, you must have a certified asbestos contractor remediate the area.
